A winter wedding at Crantock Beach, Cornwall

Updated: 4 days ago

How did you choose your venue?

Well! We were originally meant to get married in June 2020 at a local barn conversion, however Covid had other plans for us like it did so many other bride and grooms! Due to lockdown 1.0 we had to postpone to a later date, we chose December thinking life might be more "normal". As time got closer and restrictions meant that only 15 guests were allowed, we decided 8 weeks before that if we were going to go ahead with the 11th December 2020, then we would go to our favourite place in the world - Crantock in Cornwall. My grandparents started visiting Cornwall over 5o years ago, so this is something my parents continued with our family. I have been to Crantock every year of my life and when James and I got together 7 years ago, I introduced him to our family tradition of going each year. So, it just seemed to fit perfectly! James proposed in Crantock so we got married in the local village church and then had our reception at the local restaurant that is on the headland, overlooking our favourite beach.

Your favourite moments of the day?

Our whole day was perfect from start to finish. To try and narrow it down, a personal favourite would be after the ceremony when James and I went onto Crantock beach to have our own special moment just us two. It was so intimate and such a surreal experience, walking across a beach you've been on for 27 years in your wedding dress with your new husband! (Jay said his favourite was in the pub before the church!!)

Are you going on a Honeymoon?

Yes (hopefully!!) This will be our 3rd date for our honeymoon due to covid! We had originally booked for June and then travel restrictions in December meant we had to postpone again, a few weeks before we got married. So how it is booked for third time lucky in May 2021 to Dubai and the Maldives (fingers crossed!)

Anything advice you'd like to share?

Hopefully covid doesn't change anyone else's plans in 2021, but if you have the option/want to go ahead even if it means it's small and intimate I would highly highly recommend! I worried for weeks and weeks that people would be bored, people would be nervous due to the pandemic or it wouldn't feel like a "normal" wedding. I could not of been more wrong!! After such a crazy, emotional year, our Christmas wedding brought our family and closest friends together for the first time nearly all year. I appreciated every single second being surrounded by my loved ones in our favourite place in the world. I am so so glad we went ahead! Of course it would of been amazing with all of our family and friends but that is what the big party is for when life returns to normal!! It's true what they say, the day goes so quick so sit back, relax, and enjoy every single minute. As long as you marry your best friend, nothing else matters.

Your first dance song?
